For patients missing many or all of their teeth, Drs. Davis, Woodford, Nolet-Lévesque, Samim, and Ledderhof at Atlantic Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Centre collaborate with your dentist to perform a full-arch restoration from the convenience of our surgical suite in St. John’s, NL. Full-arch restorations are a revolutionary new treatment concept that can replace a full upper or lower arch of teeth in as little as one procedure.
The procedure involves fixing a full prosthesis (denture) in your mouth using as little as four dental implants. The dental implant posts ensure that your replacement teeth are securely held in place while also preventing bone resorption (bone loss around missing tooth sites). You will no longer have to worry about your dentures slipping, falling out, or causing discomfort because of an improper fit. Full-arch restorations are a very efficient way to replace many or all of your missing teeth.
Benefits of Full-Arch Restorations
Full-arch restorations allow patients to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Some of the benefits patients can expect to experience after receiving their new teeth include the following:
- An attractive new smile
- Improved ability to chew food
- No removable parts that slip or cause sores
- Bone loss prevention, preserving facial structure
Full-Arch Restoration Procedure
Full-arch restorations are usually completed in one or two procedures. The first procedure involves placing the dental implants, and either that same day or during a second procedure, your full-arch prosthesis will be attached to the implants. If your new teeth cannot be placed during your first procedure, your dentist can make a temporary set of teeth for you to wear while your final teeth are being made.
Most patients undergo IV sedation during the procedure. Once the anesthetic is administered, your oral surgeon will place the dental implants to ensure a strong, stable foundation for the final teeth. After surgery, the implant sites will need some time to heal. This allows your dental implants to fuse with the bone beneath your gums. During this healing period, you may have to adhere to a soft foods diet. Once your implants are completely healed, your permanent prosthesis can be placed, allowing you to start enjoying your favorite foods again. Most full-arch patients are very pleased with the results they receive from their full-arch restorations.
